A campaign to buy every volunteer fire station in Tasmania a carton of beer is back on track following the intervention of the state government.
The fundraiser hit a roadblock last week after the Tasmania Fire Service reminded its members government policy prevented them from accepting gifts.
But Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management Michael Ferguson managed to rectify the situation after he talked to campaign founder Adrian Morrisby.
“Adrian Morrisby has done a fantastic job raising funds to treat our hardworking volunteer firies, and we’re pleased to have reached a simple solution for the donations to get through to volunteer brigades for them to purchase their choice of beverages,” Mr Ferguson said.
“The Hodgman Liberal Government wants to say a big thank you to all the emergency services workers and volunteers who have been working tirelessly to protect Tasmanian lives, properties and the heritage that makes Tasmania special.
“We’ll also be ensuring they can enjoy the generous donations of beer that have been pledged to date at community functions, which we will host in the North, North-West and South.
The details of the thank you functions will be announced once the bushfire season is over.
