For the seventh year in succession, Academy Singers, directed by Paul Terracini, will perform music for Palm Sunday at 3pm on Sunday, April 14 at St Hilda's Anglican Church, Katoomba.
The program, Music for Palm Sunday, is varied in the choice of composers and musical styles but united in theme - conveying both the Easter story and the message of peace.
Appropriately, the concert commences with the traditional hymn All Glory, Laud and Honour (M.Teschner/J.S.Bach), celebrating the occasion of Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
It commences with the traditional hymn All Glory, Laud and Honour.
Works by contemporary composers include Stephen Paulus’ poignant The Road Home, the gentle and expressive The Lord Bless You and Keep You by John Rutter as well as the African American spiritual Hear My Prayer by Moses Hogan.
Special guests of this concert are the Kedumba Quartet who will perform the First Movement of Samuel Barber’s String Quartet in B minor.
They will also accompany the choir for two works by contemporary composers Arvo Pärt (Da Pacem Domine) and Ola Gjeilo (Sacred Heart), inspired by Gregorian Chant.
