Blue Mountains social housing tenants' stories in exhibition at the Joan

An exhibition sharing powerful stories by social housing tenants from across Penrith, Hawkesbury and the Blue Mountains regions is coming to the Joan in Penrith this month.

Journey to Social Housing shares courageous stories from people living in social housing and their messages are clear and powerful - "don't judge us", "it could happen to anyone", "a safety net is vital", "we're just like you".

Through films, audio stories and photographs they share their lives and experiences of journeying to find secure housing for themselves and their families.

Battling stigma and negative perceptions of how social housing tenants are seen, they share their stories to help others understand that having access to housing should be a universal right.

The event will be officially opened on March 14 by the Mayor of Penrith Ross Fowler at 6pm, followed by the exhibition from 7pm. The free event is on at The Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre at 597 High St, Penrith on March 14.

Journey to Social Housing is a project by Wentworth Community Housing, delivered in partnership with community arts agency CuriousWorks.
