Meet the Blue Mountains' newest cop on the beat.
Mark Walsh joined the Blue Mountains command on Monday, based out of Katoomba Station.
He was keen to become a police officer after becoming engrossed in true crime, and is looking forward to learning more about the job.
"I got in thinking I would go into the detectives, but I will see how I go," said the 22-year-old who was raised in Penrith.
He's also interested in the police rescue squad, but plans to keep his options open.
The probationary constable came through the IPROWD (Indigenous Police Recruitment Our Way Delivery Program) bridging program, which provides an introductory to policing for those with Aboriginal heritage.
Const Walsh was one of 201 new probationary constables welcomed at the Police Academy in Goulburn on February 22. He will complete 12 months on-the-job training and study of the Associate Degree in Policing Practice by distance education with Charles Sturt University before being confirmed to the rank of constable.
