Mother and daughter run over in Bunnings car park at Katoomba

Two women have been taken to hospital after they were hit by a vehicle in a car park at a busy retail centre in Katoomba on Thursday morning.

According to a Careflight spokesperson, it’s understood the mother and daughter were standing together when they were hit by a reversing vehicle.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was sent out about 10.30am, landing in Springwood due to the weather conditions.

NSW Police met the landing helicopter and conveyed the critical care medical team to the scene.

CareFlight’s specialist doctors and critical care paramedic helped NSW Ambulance paramedics providing initial care for the women.

The 89-year-old woman was assessed as stable with a leg injury by a CareFlight doctor before she was transferred to Springwood and flown by NSW Ambulance helicopter to hospital.

The 65-year-old woman remained trapped under a vehicle for around 90 minutes.

The Careflight spokesperson said their medical team helped NSW Ambulance paramedics to treat the woman, working alongside Police Rescue and NSW Fire and Rescue crews to carefully free her. The woman was treated at the scene for injuries to the head, legs and arms.

The woman was escorted by CareFlight’s medical team in a road ambulance and taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
