Two former Katoomba High students have been awarded cheques of $1,500 each at the Blue Mountains Regional Law Society annual conference in Medlow Bath.
Blue Mountains Regional Law Society president, Andrew White, presented the cheques for $1,500 to Melanie Farry and Lily Davies.
The aim of the Blue Mountains Regional Law Society Tertiary Scholarship is to support and encourage students to study law each year.
The Society offers two scholarships each year to deserving students that are studying legal studies in Year 12 and have enrolled (and been accepted) into a tertiary law degree.
Melanie Farry graduated from Katoomba High at end of 2017 and deferred for a year. She is now a first year law student at Macquarie University. Lily Davies graduated from Katoomba High at the end of 2014 and is a final year law student, also at Macquarie.
President of the Law Society of NSW, Elizabeth Espinosa and Law Society CEO Michael Tidball attended as guests. Mr White, also presented Ms Espinosa with a $1000 cheque for the national domestic violence charity, Our Watch, her nominated charity for 2019.
The event was held on Saturday March 16 at the Hydro Majestic Hotel.
Conference speakers included Judge David Dunkley, Law Society councillor, Darryl Browne, Legal Aid's Robert Hoyle, Legal author Tony Cahill and Linden Barnes from the Law Society's professional standards department.
