Work is progressing on a new gate at the Blackheath Soldiers Memorial Park.
It's a labour of love for many in the community - literally. Lots of people have donated their time or materials for the gate which will give the park a beautiful and evocative feature near the duck pond entrance on Prince Edward Street.
In between rain showers recently, brickies Terence McGarrigle, Stevan Moore, Zach Jones and Dylan Moore were hard at work - and all for free.
Not only have huge amounts of labour been given to the cause, Blackheath Mitre 10 has donated cement, Austral bricks donated all the bricks, Blue Mountains Council donated project management, waived all approval fees and has contributed $5000 in landscape works.
Tony Crawford has been instrumental in managing the project with council and the community with amazing calm and experience and Henryk Topolnicki from Art is an Option has been involved with the project from its inception five years ago.
Beyond this, the money raised for this project has come from over a dozen different community groups.
The gate should be ready in time for an official opening on Anzac Day.
