The Blue Mountains is an environment rich in inspiration for potters, with its moss speckled rock surfaces, multifarious patterned tree trunks, and hues and textures which change with the dramatic weather.
These elements are the stuff that pots are made of - the ground-up rock and ash that feature in glazes, the effects on clay of fire and heat.
On the weekend of April 13 and 14, Nolan on Lovel Gallery will host the first of hopefully many annual pottery fairs to come. The work is a mixture of tableware and sculptural pieces from 12 potters which will be displayed throughout the gallery's extensive garden, workshops and pottery studio.
All will be for sale and will be accompanied by an exhibition which opens on Friday, April 12 at 5:30pm, featuring the work of 17 potters. The organisers are keen to create an annual event that will link the Blue Mountains to the practice of pottery and the many potters who reside here. The event is free to the public and tea and coffee will be available in the garden.
Saturday, April 13 10am-4pm and Sunday, April 14 10am-2pm at Nolan on Lovel Art Gallery, 56A Lovel St Katoomba. Exhibition opens Friday, April 12 at 5:30pm.
