The Blue Mountains Roller Derby League (BMRDL) travel team the Free Sisters will battle it out for NSW roller derby supremacy at a tournament on Saturday, April 27 in Katoomba.
The team will compete on home ground against a combined Central Coast and South Side team, in the second round of the 5x5 Roller Derby Championships, a six month round robin tournament.
Now in its seventh year, the tournament features 12 teams across three divisions battling it out for not one, but three trophies, plus NSW roller derby supremacy.
The Free Sisters opponents this year include teams from the Central Coast and western Sydney. The team has a wave of new 'up and coming' skaters, and mixed with seasoned veterans, will ensure an exciting tournament with this new look team.
BMRDL president, Rapid Dash, said of the upcoming round, "I urge anyone interested in the fastest growing full contact sport for women in Australia, to take this opportunity to come along and check out these competitive teams in action."
Tickets will be available at the door and all are welcome. Doors open from 1.30pm with the first bout
BMRDL will compete at 4pm, but there will be three bouts across the afternoon, with the first bout starting at 2pm. Teams will travel from as far afield as Newcastle, Maitland, Wollongong and the Northern Beaches to compete. Tickets at the door, at Katoomba Aquatic Centre.
And starting in May, the club will be running an introduction to roller derby program for anyone interested in getting involved in roller derby - as skaters, referees and/or officials. No skating experience is necessary.
