A controversial development application for a 40-place childcare centre in a Springwood residential street has been withdrawn.
Developer Peter Dollin, on behalf of Childsplay Day Care, said they had withdrawn the application as council had indicated they wouldn't support it.
Mr Dollin said the biggest problem was that regulations required a 13-bay car park to be built in a large grassy area, and directing the run-off from this into the storm water system would be complex to address.
"Clearly we are initially disappointed but it hasn't dented our enthusiasm," Mr Dollin said.
But he hadn't decided yet what their future plans might be.
"We haven't changed plans for a quality child care centre," Mr Dollin said. "No options are off the table. We will look at anything."
They had planned to convert a house in Prince St into the childcare centre, which had residents up in arms due to the safety, traffic and environmental impacts on the quiet street.
Resident Andrew Baron said: "I am really happy at the withdrawal of the DA, and the neighbourhood is very relieved at the outcome."
A council spokeswoman said: "After a preliminary assessment of the DA by council staff the applicant was advised to withdraw the application due to a number issues being identified which would likely have resulted in the application being refused."
