Parking problems which have plagued Blaxland residents and commuters will be alleviated with a $2 million upgrade to the Blaxland commuter car park, under a Shorten Labor Government.
Opposition infrastructure and transport spokesman Anthony Albanese made the announcement today [Monday].
Federal Member for Macquarie Susan Templeman said "any commuter knows Blaxland Commuter Carpark desperately needs an upgrade".
"Since I started catching trains from Blaxland station 25 years ago, the volume has grown and now more than 700 commuters use it each day, yet it does not have an adequate parking facility to cope with that many cars or people," she said.
"This is something the community has been crying out for and I'm delighted that if elected, a Shorten Labor Government will provide the necessary funding to make it a reality."
State Member for Blue Mountains Trish Doyle and Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill welcomed the announcement.
"Labor wants to make it easier for more people to get out of their cars and on to public transport and what Susan and I have been hearing year in and year out from residents in Blaxland is that they desperately need more parking capacity near the station to cope with the increased patronage on our rail network," said Ms Doyle.
Mayor Greenhill said the "announcement will make a meaningful difference to many local workers".
