A Wentworth Falls man has been placed on a two-year community corrections order after repeatedly punching a teacher at Katoomba High School.
Blue Mountains Police Detective Inspector Scott McAlpine said the man, aged 44, confronted the teacher at the school just after 9am on April 5.
"The man threatened the teacher before grabbing him by the shirt and repeatedly punching him in the head. Other staff members attempted to intervene but were unable to restrain the offender. He continued punching the teacher in the head, causing lacerations to his forehead and ear, as well as bruising to his face," Det Insp McAlpine said.
Det Insp McAlpine said the man was the father of a student at the school who did not like the way his child was placed in 'time out' by a teacher, due to a previous incident.
Police were called and the man was arrested at the high school and later charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The man appeared before Katoomba Local Court on April 15 where he was given a two-year community corrections order and 200 hours of community service.
Schools in lockdown
A parent on social media threatening to self-harm after holding his son, saw police put two primary schools into lockdown last week.
Faulconbridge Public and Emu Heights Public were in lockdown for about 90 minutes from 10am on May 2.
Blue Mountains Police Sergeant Mick Magill said police were unaware where the child was at the time, so both schools had been put into lockdown.
An Education Department spokesman said the students were kept in at Faulconbridge Public as a precaution.
"There was no incident on school grounds. The school resumed normal operation following further advice from police," he said.
Castle Hill police found the 40-year-old man in Baulkham Hills and he was taken to Westmead Hospital for a mental health assessment, Sgt Magill said.
Knife threat
A Bullaburra man, recently released from prison, allegedly threatened a man with a knife in Katoomba on May 1, assaulting him, and then stealing his phone and wallet.
The victim went to Katoomba Hospital for treatment, then to another address in Katoomba where the 24-year-old Bullaburra man was present. "The offender assaulted the victim again who then ran away from the location. The offender chased the victim and continued to assault him before fleeing the scene," Det Insp McAlpine said.
The Bullaburra man was arrested in Katoomba the following day and charged with assault with intent to rob, reckless wounding, assault with intent to commit a serious indictable offence and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. "The offender had recently been released from prison after serving several years for violent offences," Det Insp McAlpine said. He was to appear before Katoomba Local Court on May 6.

"After being confronted, the man punched another male in the face and a short wrestle ensued. Police were called and removed the two men from the train at Katoomba Railway Station," Det Insp McAlpine said.
The Blackheath man was arrested and taken to Katoomba Police Station where he was interviewed. He was later released from custody without charge, pending further investigation, Det Insp McAlpine said.
