The Art of Lunch is a unique showcase for the talents of Blue Mountains chefs, artists and musicians.
Gallery and restaurant venues are working together with the Art of Lunch team and local creatives to maximise the sensory experience of a long Sunday lunch.
Each event is thematic, with a monthly matchmaking of menu, art and music.
The Avalon in Katoomba Street has been a favourite with locals since 1936, its retro decor is legendary, as was the unchanging menu.
But there's something new afoot, as the restaurateurs Dylan Brookes, David Cartwright and their culinary team take up the challenge to host an Art of Lunch event on the last Sunday of each month from now until October.
An Indigenous theme launches the Avalon's Art of Lunch event on May 26, featuring award-winning Darug artist Shane Smithers, whose traditional country extends along the Hawkesbury River to the top of the Blue Mountains. Songman Uncle Pete Williams provides the music and the menu is inspired by the Australian bush.
In June, the Avalon segues into a different theme, Dancing Light, with artist Rachel Hannah, who will also perform as a duo with John Stuart.
Expect the unexpected on the last Sunday of May at the Wild Valley Art Park in Wentworth Falls. Indulge your tastebuds with fragrant fusions and dishes to delight created by LouLou and Selena. The flavourful menu is designed to compliment the 'Fractured to Fairytale' exhibition by Livonne.
Go for the immersive experience at Gang Gang Gallery in Lithgow on May 26. Share an apéritif with the artist, Rebecca Wilson, whose exhibition explores the fascinating but lesser-known heroes and villains of the iconic town of Hill End. Chef entices you with a delectable luncheon of high-end local produce, and Paddy O'Connor's emotive Uliean pipes and Irish-Australian tunes evoke the era.
The highlight of the Art of Lunch menu in June is art and soul at Katoomba's Gallery One88. Famous for showing a panoply of Blue Mountains artists, on this occasion artist/owner Victor Peralta reveals his own recent paintings, along with another celebrated Blue Mountains painter, David Robert Hill. The latest addition to gallery One88 is the new basement cafe, a wonderful ambience for a fusion of food and music.
