Ruth Dengate has gained considerable recognition as a water-colourist since she began painting with the late Garrett Kingsley and Ron Stannard at the Royal Art Society of NSW in the 1970s. She became an exhibiting member of the society in the early 1980s.
Ruth held her first one-woman exhibition in Windsor in 1983 and has also exhibited successfully in conjunction with other artists in an exhibition entitled 'Women of the Hawkesbury' at the Attic Gallery, Windsor.
In 1993, Ruth won first prize in the water-colour section of the Blacktown Australia Day Art Exhibition and, in an unusual follow up, won first and second prizes in the same competition in 1994.
Also in 1994, Ruth conducted an exhibition at Braemar Gallery in Springwood with two other artists. Her works included a mixed medium of oils, water-colours and pastels.
In 2001, Ruth joined the Society of Mountain Artists (SMA). In the same year, Ruth won a highly commended prize at the Blacktown Rhododendron Festival.
Since joining SMA, Ruth has sold consistently well at its art shows, which are held twice a year at The Fairways, Leura. She has won many awards for her still life in oils, pastels and water-colours, including first prize for her water-colour, 'Spring Roses', judged by John Wilson in 2003.
Also in 2003, Ruth won first prize for her oil painting and second prize for her water-colour at the SMA Winter Art Show, judged by Warwick Fuller.
Her sensitive, delicately executed oils and water-colours sell readily in leading art galleries in and around Sydney and the Blue Mountains and have won high praise from art experts.
Ruth Dengate will be exhibiting at Gallery ONE88, Katoomba Street, Katoomba from 11th June to 23rd June 2019. Opening is Saturday, June 15, from 3-5pm.
