Blue Mountains BMX riders Eli Schroeder and Bryn Couzin were finalists at the BMX National Championships in Victoria in May.
Held from May 20-25 in Shepparton, more than 1500 riders took to the track for Australia's premier BMX event.
Eight-year-old Eli from Winmalee was seventh in the 9 years boys 20-inch final against a competitive bunch of riders and was happy to make it to the finals.
"The semi-final this year was the most nervous I've ever been in a race," Eli said.
"Not only was it fun racing, I had a really, really fun time catching up with mates from all over Australia."
Eli is ranked number 7 in Australia for 9 years boys, and half way through the State Series he is leading the competition, but says he will have to work hard to keep the lead.
He's training and racing up to five days a week in preparation for the State Championships in Maitland in October.
Fellow club member 10-year-old Bryn Couzin from Hazelbrook, was eighth in the 10 years boys 20-inch event.
Bryn had been placing in the top two in all his heats, but in the final he hit another rider on the second jump and lost his footing, and was unable to regain ground.
"I was going really good all day, which was surprising, but then my [final] result was really disappointing. I felt I could have got in second or third," Bryn said.
"I just have fun with my friends and like visiting new towns and seeing the local stuff."
Bryn is ranked eighth in Australia and is currently second in the state series. He too will be training hard for the State Championships.
