A new documentary by award-winning filmmaker, Tom Zubrycki, tells the story of the long campaign to protect the spectacular pagoda country north of Lithgow and how its future hangs in the balance.
The Blue Mountains Conservation Society will present Gardens of Stone: Living Landscape at Mount Vic Flicks on July 2.
"This event will give Mountains people a second chance to see the documentary of this remarkable landscape and learn about Destination Pagoda, a new plan to make a Gardens of Stone conservation area into a world-class tourism and conservation reserve focused on Lithgow," said Madi Maclean, spokeswoman for the Conservation Society.
The society, in collaboration with the Colong Foundation and Lithgow Environment Group (as the Gardens of Stone Alliance), has developed a visitor plan called Destination Pagoda.
It shows how the area's environmental values can be protected and also enjoyed by thousands through the provision of basic recreation facilities. Families can get close to nature and then enjoy the eateries and attractions of nearby Lithgow.
Guest speaker Ian Brown, adventurer, climber and respected park management consultant, will outline the values and potential of the Gardens of Stone. Destination Pagoda (co-authored by Ian and Elizabeth Dudley-Bestow) outlines a program to create an iconic, rewarding, must-see tourist destination.
Copies of the Destination Pagoda plan will be available for sale. This event supports the campaign to protect the Gardens of Stone.
The event is on at Mount Vic Flicks at 7pm on Tuesday July 2. Tickets: $5. Mount Vic's renowned snack bar will be open.
