Alan Spears, the longest-serving captain of the Mt Riverview RFS brigade, has been acknowledged by Blue Mountains council.
At the council meeting on Tuesday night, the mayor, Mark Greenhill, paid tribute to Mr Spears, who died on June 2.
"Alan dedicated 27 years of service as a field officer with the RFS and ten years as captain," he said.
"He was known for his kind, considerate and well-respected manner at the brigade.
:"Alan also demonstrated a huge capacity for conflict resolution and had unprecedented patience as a leader."
Mr Spears was a life member of the Mt Riverview RFS and had received the NSW RFS long service medal - 50 year clasp.
Cr Greenhill expressed his condolences to Mr Spears' wife, Heather, and family.
