Police are appealing for information after a child was approached in Winmalee on Saturday.
A 12-year-old boy was riding his bike on the footpath along Hawkesbury Road about 3pm when a vehicle stopped and its driver, an unknown man, asked the boy if he wanted a ride.
The boy declined and rode away, and the vehicle left the scene, said Blue Mountains Police Detective Acting Inspector Brendan Bayliss.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw a late-model red sedan - possibly a Ford Falcon or Holden Commodore - in the area around the time of the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Dash Cam footage or CCTV is also sought.
Scouts rescued
Six scouts were rescued from around Victoria Falls in Mt Victoria on July 16.
The group was attempting a three-day hike when they lost the track and activated their personal locator beacon (PLB), which triggered a land and air search led by Police Rescue officers.
Aircraft were deployed and a paramedic was winched into the group while police and paramedics accessed the group by foot. No-one was injured and everyone was able to walk out.
"Police remind bushwalkers of the importance of carrying a registered PLB and being in the company of experienced walkers when attempting something of this nature," Acting Insp Bayliss said.
Eldon fire
An electrical fault caused the fire at the former Eldon Guest House in Katoomba on July 15. A caretaker was living on site, and specialist police crime scene officers and fire investigators have deemed the fire non-suspicious. "The origin of the fire has been determined to have originated from a powerboard beside a bed. The fire was restricted to two rooms and the estimated damage is considered less than $100,000," Acting Insp Bayliss said.
Bikes stolen
From July 6 to 13, four road motorcycles were stolen in separate incidents across the Mountains.
"The motorcycles had steering lock devices at the time of the theft, therefore it is possible that they are being towed or carried away from their residences and multiple offenders are involved," Acting Insp Bayliss said.
Police advise bike owners to take security precautions.
Drink driving
Between July 17-19 two drivers were caught driving under the influence.
An ACT man, 50, was caught at Blaxland and a Blackheath man, 55, at Blackheath, were found driving with mid-range PCA (Prescribed Concentration of Alcohol). A first offence carries a maximum prison term of nine months, a maximum fine of $2200 and immediate licence suspension for at least six months.
