A desire to create a funeral home run by caring and compassionate women was the incentive for Donna Hildon and Belinda Erich to set up Supremacy Funerals in the former home of John Price & Sons in 2014.
The sisters both worked with their mother, Yvonne Meehan, at their family business funeral parlour in Emu Plains.
She retired in 2013 and the pair worked under a new company for a while before purchasing John Price and Sons.
"Together, collectively, we are three generations of funeral directors serving the community of the Blue Mountains and Penrith region with the highest level of funeral care with dignity and compassion," Mrs Erich said.
Based in Station Street, Penrith, John Price and Sons was established in 1855 and is the oldest continuously operating business in the region.
In 2014, Mrs Hildon and Mrs Erich bought the business in order to continue the service for the Penrith and Blue Mountains community and ensure it was family-run. They changed the name to Supremacy Funerals.
Mrs Hildon said John Price and Son had moved several times since 1855, originating on High Street, Penrith, then moving to another location on the same street, before moving to its current site in 1952.
"The site was originally a livery stable and blacksmiths shop before it was redesigned as a purpose-built funeral parlour with an on-site chapel seating 200 people and registered mortuary facilities," Mrs Hildon said.
"The official grand opening was on December 1, 1952 as the original Penrith Funeral Home, trading as John Price and Sons."

Mrs Hildon said Supremacy's aim was to provide superior funeral care to families, offering comfort and support from the minute of first contact, to the day of the funeral, and beyond.
"We treat every person as if they are a member of our own family," she said. "We assist in all the arranging process to relieve the stress for families, to book and plan every aspect of the funeral.
"We also offer pre-paid funerals to those that would like to secure today's funeral prices."
The sisters, who have lived in the Blue Mountains for most of their lives, said the community supported local, family-owned businesses.
"We are proud to offer the community our services and look after them in their time of need," Mrs Erich said.
"We also support environmentally friendly funerals, and offer eco-friendly caskets and urns.
"And as our funeral directors are all Blue Mountains locals we can provide all the arrangements in the comfort of your own home."
