Allen and Lyn Smith had $5000 in the bank, a very old ute and a very young family when they started Woodford Homes in July 1998.
"We started the business in our back rumpus room with a desk and an old computer," Ms Smith said. "I had to print our quotes at my friend's house until we could afford a printer."
Ms Smith said their dream was to give people the opportunity to own a quality home like theirs. "We built our own home in 1994 and still live there today."

The Woodford Homes team includes four head carpenters, three apprentices, an administration assistant, a building supervisor and a production estimator.
"I'm the company manager and Allen is the client service manager," Ms Smith said. "We offer a complete start to finish service.
"We're also one of only a few local steel frame specialists, which gives us a competitive advantage in bushfire-prone areas."
A proud part of the Blue Mountains community, Woodford Homes does its part by employing local people and training apprentices to become skilled tradesmen.
"Allen has also been involved with the Springwood Rotary Club for 10 years and we're involved in the Schools Industry Partnership, providing work experience for students studying construction," Ms Smith said.
