Australian actor Bryan Brown will be special guest at a charity film screening hosted by David Stratton at the Blue Mountains Theatre in Springwood on August 18.
They will be joined by Tom Jeffrey, director of the featured film - 1979's The Odd Angry Shot - which starred Brown.
The screening is a fundraiser for the Blue Mountains Vietnam Veterans and Associated Forces Incorporated and Soldier On, with money from ticket sales used to provide welfare services to Australian veterans.
Esteemed film critic David Stratton will host a Q&A with Brown and Jeffrey directly following the screening.
The Odd Angry Shot is considered to be the best movie made that reflects what Vietnam was like for an Australian soldier. Rated M, it is a war and action film with elements of great Aussie comedy, based on the book of the same title by William Nagel. The film's all-star cast includes Graham Kennedy, John Hargreaves, John Jarrratt, Graeme Blundell and Bryan Brown.
Blue Mountains Theatre manager, Tim Smith, said: "We are delighted to partner with the Blue Mountains Vietnam Veterans on this event and encourage local residents to attend what will be a very special afternoon of entertainment and support a great fundraiser for the Vets and Soldier On."
The Blue Mountains Vietnam Veterans Association was formed in 1985 to foster social contact for those who had any active service during Australian involvement in the war in Vietnam. In 1997 its successor, Blue Mountains Vietnam Veterans and Associated Forces Incorporated, was formed and now accepts veterans who have served in all post-World War II theatres of war, special operations areas, and peacekeeping operations.
Soldier On is Australia's only national, fully integrated and holistic support services provider for national service personnel and their families.
The Odd Angry Shot special fundraiser will be held at the Blue Mountains Theatre on Sunday, August 18 from 3pm. All tickets $25. Tickets can be purchased at the box office in Macquarie Road, via phone 4723 5050 or online at www.bluemountainstheatre.com.
