Things are really happening at the Penrith Symphony Orchestra (PSO), with two exhilarating evenings of music set to dazzle audiences over the winter months.
On Saturda, August 3 at 7pm, PSO presents Bizet's opera Carmen. Be swept away by a tale of fate, lust, murder and jealousy, in a full concert performance of one of the greatest operas of all time. A perennial audience favourite, Noemi Nadelmann is electrifying as Carmen, appearing with fellow stars of Opera Australia, alongside the orchestra and the Penrith Symphony Orchestra Festival Chorus.
It's not often that a production of this size comes to Penrith, with the performance featuring nine soloists, 60 musicians and more than 70 singers on stage together at the Joan.
PSO's artistic director, Paul Terracini: "It's very exciting to have some of the finest soloists from Opera Australia, performing alongside our wonderful local musicians and singers, this performance is sure to be an unforgettable experience."
The orchestra then continues its Symphonic Series with a journey to faraway places on August 14.
Borodin, Shostakovich and Dvorak will feature a program rich in exoticism and colour. Guest conductor Luke Spicer will guide the ensemble as they embark upon this magnificent expedition, they are joined by Ronan Apcar, winner of the 2018 Conservatorium High School Concerto Competition in a performance of Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2.
