Coming to the Mountains on Saturday, August 24, is Glenn Skuthorpe, a masterful storyteller and compelling performer. A Nhunggabarra, Kooma, Muruwari man from Goodooga in north west NSW, Skuthorpe is an award-winning singer-songwriter with six highly regarded albums and a string of Australian and international festival successes to his name.
He is the special guest artist in a concert entitled Bulgamada, which means 'mountain water' in Dharug language. The concert is a celebration of indigenous song writing, music making, story telling and community choral singing.
Other guest artists include local indigenous artists Jacinta Tobin and Lexodious Dadd. A choir of 100 voices has been rehearsing music by Skuthorpe and Tobin, by eminent musicians Archie Roach and Kev Carmody, as well as a beautiful song from Gamilaroi woman Rachel Shields.
The project, which has received substantial funding from Create NSW, as well as generous sponsorship from Bendigo Bank and Scenic World, is a partnership between Blackheath Area Neighbourhood Centre and Christine Wheeler, director of Blackheath's community choir The Heathens.
The concert will be held at Blackheath Community Hall, 7pm on Saturday 24 August. Tickets are online at https://www.trybooking.com/BDGBY or for cash sale at Blackheath Area Neighbourhood Centre, Gardiners Crescent, Blackheath.
