Tuesday, September 10, is International World Suicide Prevention Day. This is an awareness day observed around the world each year, to provide worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides.
In the Blue Mountains, there are workshops on how to support someone who is feeling suicidal. These workshops are supported by Winmalee, Blackheath and Springwood Neighbourhood Centres under the partnership Creating Caring Communities - Mental Health First Aid Training in the Blue Mountains - and facilitated by local mental health first aid instructo,r Jane Armstrong.
The workshops teach adults to support other adults at risk of suicide, learning skills such as identifying signs of concern, asking about suicide and providing appropriate support.
Workshops will be held on Monday, September 9, in Lawson from 12.30-5pm and on Tuesday, September 10, in Blackheath from 9am-1.30pm. The cost is $35 and includes an excellent suicide prevention manual. For inquiries or to book contact Jane Armstrong on ommanepadmehum55@hotmail.com or 0422 363 912.
There are many other Mental Health First Aid training programs run in the Blue Mountains throughout the year. Please contact Jane for further information.
