Mikey, a regular ginger short-haired house cat, who went missing from Kelly Street, Clare, seven years ago was reunited with his owners on Friday.
It was a chance sighting of the cat when visiting the Muanu feedlot which led to Christine Graham, who works for Muanu's owners, Hale River, being part of the happy tale.
Mrs Graham said she didn't often visit the feedlot but in June she happened to catch a glimpse of the cat.
A couple of weeks later, Mrs Graham spotted the cat again and noticed it had a harness.
Mrs Graham told Northern Argus after seeing it had a harness, she knew she had to try catch it.
The morning of Friday, August 16, Mrs Graham set a cat trap, supplied by Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council and asked feedlot staff to contact her if it was captured.
Just an hour later the ginger cat had been captured.
"My concern was getting that harness off," Mrs Graham said.
Council staff then visited the feedlot and found a phone number on an ID disc. A call was made and the owners were found.
Owners Andrew and Rhiannah Barp, of Farrell Flat, couldn't believe the phone call when they received it.
Mikey, now 11 years old, and his sister Sabrina went missing together.
Mr Barp noticed the duo didn't come home for food and to be put away for the evening, after returning home from being away for the weekend.
With no sign after a couple of nights, Mr and Mrs Barp started their search.
Both were desexed and microchipped, they also had harnesses and name tags on.
Fast forward seven years and Mr and Mrs Barp - along with their two children - have relocated to Farrell Flat. While they hadn't given up hope the cats would come home, they had scaled back their constant searching.
Mrs Barp said they couldn't believe it when they received the phone call on Friday.
"We are still shocked, that's the main feeling," Mrs Barp said.
"When they told me they have him I was like, are you serious? It was total shock."
The Barp family is thankful to have Mikey home.
