Almost 12 months to the day since Cecilia Devine was last captured on CCTV outside the Carrington Hotel at Katoomba, police were back there again on September 4, with a mannequin wearing clothes similar to those Ms Devine was wearing.
They hoped that having the life-sized dummy, rather than just video footage or still photos, might jog someone's memory.
Ms Devine's naked body was found in the Upper Cascade Dam in Katoomba on March 18 this year. The area is part of the Sydney Water Catchment and closed off to the public.
She had been reported missing from her home at Waratah, near Newcastle, on September 5, 2018.
Police examining security video footage found the images of her walking down the driveway of the Carrington just before 3.30pm on Thursday, September 6.
She also bought a scarf, jumper and shoes from the Rivers shop on Katoomba St and food from the Coles supermarket before disappearing.
Detective Sergeant James Allan said police had had "some" help from the public "but we're hoping for more and that's the purpose for the display and having the mannequin wearing what Cecilia was when she was last seen".
Ms Devine was dressed in a yellow knitted cardigan, light coloured top and black pants.
The 42-year-old singer is understood to have performed in Katoomba in the past and had some ties to the town, which might explain why she was so far from home, Sgt Allan said.
In particular, police was hoping to locate the clothes she was wearing in the video and her missing distinctive orange handbag.
Sgt Allan said an autopsy had been performed but the results had yet to be released.
