Pat Cummins, arguably Mt Riverview's favourite son, cemented his importance to the Australian cricket team with an outstanding Ashes performance.
Cummins was the highest wicket-taker in the series, with 29 at an average of 19.6, ahead of team-mates Josh Hazelwood (20 at 21.8) and Nathan Lyon (20 at 33.4).
England's best were Stuart Broad (23 at 26.6) and newcomer Jofra Archer (22 at 20.3).
Although the team failed at the final hurdle to win the series - losing the last Test to finish tied 2-2 with England - the team did enough to retain the Ashes.
Cummins' parents, Peter and Maria, were there for the fourth Test, which ensured the Ashes urn would remain in Australia.
"We were lucky enough to witness Australia winning at Manchester and the excitement was unbelievable," Peter Cummins said.
He said they were enormously proud of their son, both on and off the field.
"We appreciate the extensive Mountains community support from the numerous people who have had connections with our family over the years.
"We do know Patrick is looking forward to getting back to Australia after a long five-and-a-half months away ... playing in the World Cup and Ashes series."
Cummins took the time from England to send greetings to his old Glenbrook-Blaxland cricket club, which posted a photo of him wearing his junior club shirt.
