Penrith Musical Comedy Company (PMCC) is getting ready to hit the stage of The Q Theatre this school holidays, bringing Victorian England to life in the worldwide phenomenon musical, Oliver!.
Comprising a wealth of talent hailing from all corners of western Sydney, the cast of PMCC's Oliver! also features many performers from the Blue Mountains in principal roles. Two long-time Blue Mountains residents, Simon Peppercorn (Bullaburra) and Virginia Fortunat (Faulconbridge), portray the wicked duo of Mr Bumble and Widow Corney (owners of a workhouse that Oliver lives in at the beginning of the show), and Blaxland resident Dean Liehr shines as the Artful Dodger. Alongside them are Springwood residents Ben Curran and Jack Maidment, who are splendidly bringing the villainous Fagin and Bill Sikes (respectively) to life. The ensemble is also filled to the brim with talented performers from Glenbrook to Hazelbrook.
Lionel Bart's Oliver! is one of the few musicals that has received prestigious awards for both screen and stage productions, with the 1968 film adaptation receiving an award for best picture.
Featuring a host of iconic songs such as Food Glorious Food, As Long as He Needs Me and Consider Yourself, PMCC's production will showcase local talent in a raucous and wonderful way. The Q Theatre season will from October 5-13 over eight shows. Tickets start at $33 (when using the promo code BMG).
