Award-winning Wentworth Falls filmmaker Ramana Dienes-Browning will launch her latest directorial work at the Vanguard in Newtown on Sunday, September 22.
The music video, Calm Before The Storm, is for talented singer-songwriter Lucy Burke.
Drawing influences from such artists as Adele, Portishead, Lana Del Ray, The Beatles and Norah Jones, Burke's music style is varied and engaging. Not one to be boxed in, her live performance ranges from intimate acoustic cello songs to upbeat jazz funk power ballads.
The video was shot around spectacular Blue Mountains locations, including at Medlow Bath and Mermaids Cave, by local cinematographer Sean O'Keeffe.
It features local dancers and has a mysterious fantastical style that enhances the epic quality of the song.
"We are so lucky here to have such a rich variety of different landscapes and locations here at our finger tips," said O'Keeffe.
"This work in particular also makes use of the incredible light we have here, ranging from veiled misty forests to bright sunlit groves of greens and oranges."
The original concept by Lucy Burke was developed by Dienes-Browning and Burke's creative collaboration and the dance choreography inspired by a Hungarian contemporary dance technique developed in the 1920s by Dienes Valeria, Dienes-Browning's great grandmother.
"It's is at heart an experimental short film," she said. "It meant a lot to be able to explore the themes of our emotional response to fate and the fear it can bring up in such a rich natural environment. I'm really grateful to Lucy for the opportunity to create something different. I was lucky to collaborate with such fantastic local artists and filmmakers, Jules Bowering the production designer, Sean O'Keaffe and Tom Taylor who is currently wrapping up the post production on the film with his magic."
