On the long weekend Monday, a 52-year-old female bushwalker slipped and fell down a near vertical slope near Vera Falls suffering spinal injuries. Police said she was walking with a 51-year-old woman from the Conservation Hut to Wentworth Falls, Hippocrene Falls, and Vera Falls. While looking for the track from Vera Falls back to the hut, they climbed about 10-15 metres above the base of the waterfall. The 52-year-old slipped, landing on rocks below. She was unable to walk and triple 0 was called. Officers from police rescue and ambulance special operations walked in and a rescue helicopter was also dispatched. She was winched out and flown to Liverpool Hospital.
Charges over pub shooting
Two men have been charged with intent to murder after a shooting in the Gardners Inn pokies room in Blackheath at 11pm on September 5. On October 2, Blue Mountains detectives with the help of Chifley police and officers from the Public Order and Riot Squad and Dog Squad, executed search warrants at residences in Blackheath, Little Hartley, and Cronulla in connection with the shooting. Two home-made firearms were seized. A Blackheath man, aged 24, and a Cronulla man, 26, were arrested and charged with shoot with intent to murder and manufacturing pistols. Both were refused bail and will appear at Katoomba Court on October 14. It's alleged the men, armed with handguns, entered the Inn and shot at a man; narrowly missing him.
Assault police
A 53-year-old Katoomba man will face court on October 28 after allegedly kicking a police officer and striking the officer in the face and shoulder. Police said about 3pm on October 2 the man was involved in an argument with members of the public on Katoomba Street. Police were called and separated those involved. The man was using offensive language and after repeated warnings was arrested. While being placed in the rear of a caged police vehicle, police say he kicked a male police officer twice, striking the officer in the face and shoulder. No serious injuries were sustained.
Assault
Two men hit a Katoomba man with a baseball bat fracturing his eye and nose in the early hours of Monday October 7. Police say just before 2am the 48-year-old was assaulted in Katoomba Street by two unknown men. The victim is in hospital in a stable condition awaiting surgery. The men were described as caucasian, in their 20s, one was in a white vest, black shorts, with slim build and long dark hair; the other had no shirt, slim build, and short dark hair.
