Child sex abuse cases will be given priority through the South Australian courts system under changes recommended by a review of serious offences.
The review was sparked by concerns the time frame for major indictable offences is blowing out with some matters taking years to get to trial.
Attorney-General Vickie Chapman says improvements are needed to current procedures, but there is no "tsunami" of cases waiting to get through the system.
The review has also recommended the introduction of time limits for the disclosure of information by prosecutors and for a charge determination to be made.
It also calls for prosecutors to take charge of major indictable cases from the second appearance date instead of leaving matters in the hands of police along with more progress checks and mandatory conferences between the parties.
