The Blue Mountains Creative Arts Network (BMCAN) will host the 2019 creative arts leaders awards on October 24 at the Mountain Heritage Hotel in Katoomba.
BMCAN has been advised by the Creative Arts Leaders Awards committee of Tony Bond, formerly of Art Gallery of NSW; Amy Sambrooke of Varuna Writers Centre; Maggie Davis, theatre director; Julie Ankers, Radio Blue Mountains president and Peter Long of Abbey Street Music Studio.
The awards recognise significant leadership contributions made by individuals in the area across various forms of artistic expression
Categories include visual arts, writing, music, performing arts and film, as well as artisan crafts.
There is also an award for the outstanding local community creative arts organisation.
Winners have been selected from more than 40 nominees by an independent panel of leading practitioners in their field established by the CALA committee.
This is the second year of the awards. Inaugural winners included Julie Ankers of RBM, Faye Wilson of Blume Magazine, music promoters Chris Cannell and Meg Benson and gallery owner Victor Peralta.
BMCAN is a membership-based organisation that supports the vibrant creative arts community in the Greater Blue Mountains through leadership, member services and collaborative partnerships.
Services include auspicing artists applying for grants, member art exhibitions, arts trails and open studios, monthly talking art events and the Wild Mountain Collective's program of seminars and multi-arts events.
Membership costs only $60 annually. Those attending the awards night can join at the event. You can also join on the BMCAN website at bmcan.com.au.
