The prime minister says Wikileaks founder Julian Assange should "face the music" in court as he fights extradition to the United States.
Scott Morrison says the Australian government will let British legal processes run their course and noted there was a long way to go.
"My personal opinion is that the legal ... processes should run their course and he should face the music," he told Sydney radio 2SM on Thursday.
Assange, who was accused of sexual assault in Sweden and feared extradition to the US, sought asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London in 2012.
He spent seven years there until Ecuador withdrew its protection, expelled him and he was arrested by British police.
Earlier this week, Nationals backbencher Barnaby Joyce called for Australia to step up its diplomatic efforts once Assange serves his time in a British jail for breaching his bail.
