Katoomba Public School launched its own War on Waste on Thursday, October 17, where the entire school community talked about ways to reduce waste.
The day was funded by a NSW government environmental trust eco schools grant, and was supported by Blue Mountains City Council's environmental education team.
Special composting bins will be introduced to the playground for students to put their compostable waste in, and "rubbish rooms", modeled on Marina Brown's rubbish rooms at local events, such as the Blue Mountains Music Festival, will be staffed by volunteer students to help ensure waste isn't contaminated
A "waste-free lunch" demonstration day will also be held at the school, where students will run stalls for each other to share some waste-free lunch box ideas.
