UPDATE 5.30pm Saturday: There are good containment lines around the perimeter of the Woodford fire, and while there are spots flaring up from time to time, these are being handled quickly by the fire crews on hand.
"You will see crews around the streets for a number of days to come while we patrol, and complete the blacking out process," Woodford Rural Fire Brigade posted on its Facebook page at 3.30pm.
"Remember, don't be afraid to call 000 if you see something develop. That is how we can get on top of these things quickly."
Mayor Mark Greenhill said there are still no reports of significant property damage as a result of this fire.
"I am told evacuated residents were allowed to return to their homes this morning. The evacuation centre at Hazelbrook Bowling Club has therefore been closed. My thanks to the club management," he posted on his Facebook page at 4.30pm.
UPDATE 8am Saturday: The Woodford bushfire has been downgraded to "advice" level after conditions eased overnight, allowing firefighters to gain the upper hand.
"Crews worked through the night building containment lines and rounding up spot fires. Today fresh crews will be reinforcing that work, and you may see more smoke pop up as that work happens," Woodford Rural Fire Brigade posted on its Facebook page at 7am on Saturday.
The brigade urged people to stay vigilant, and report any unattended fires via 000.
"Park Rd is open to residents only (you may need ID to get in)," it posted.
Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill said he had spoken to the incident controller on Saturday morning, saying "we have a long day ahead but it is looking positive".
"We still have no reports of property lost at this time.
"Overnight our wonderful emergency services have staged yet another incredible campaign and this is the reason we are not talking about lost homes this morning," he said.
"I want to thank the people at the evacuation centre last night for also admitting pets.
"To our emergency services - words are not enough. You constantly earn the love and respects of this community."
UPDATE Friday 7.20pm: The bushfire at Woodford has been downgraded to "watch and act" level.
"With fire crews and aircraft working to protect properties, the fire has been downgraded. If you are in the area around Leumeah Road, Park Road, Mona Road and Riches Avenue, continue to monitor conditions," the NSW RFS tweeted at 7.15pm.
UPDATE Friday 6pm: There are no reports at this stage of any homes being lost in the Woodford bushfire, Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill confirmed on Friday evening.
Residents who were evacuated from homes were meeting at Hazelbrook Bowling Club, while emergency services planned to put containment lines in place overnight.
"I can say on the record there are no reports at this stage of any homes lost," the mayor told the Gazette at 5.45pm.
5pm: Firefighters are battling to protect homes in Woodford after a bushfire broke out on Friday afternoon [November 8].
The NSW Rural Fire Service issued an emergency warning at 3pm for a bushfire in the Riches Avenue area at Woodford.
At 5pm, the RFS stated the fire was five hectares and out of control.
Ground crews and aircraft were on the scene.
"If you are in the area around Leumeah Road, Park Road, Mona Road and Riches Avenue seek shelter as the fire approaches. Protect yourself from the heat of the fire," the RFS warned.
"Put your Bush Fire Survival Plan into action. If you do not have a Bush Fire Survival Plan, know what you will do if the fire threatens your property."
Posting on its Facebook page, Springwood Fire & Rescue NSW Station urged people to "please stay away from the area for your own safety and to allow unimpeded access to fire appliances".
Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill was being briefed on the situation.
"I will ensure council puts its entire efforts behind any support requests we might receive," he said.
He urged residents to follow any directions from the emergency services.
"My message to the community is this: stay alert and stick together. That's how we get through these things."
