Lawns are in.
That's the conclusion reached by Arthur Fayle from Leura Mower Repairs.
His business is booming, so much so that he's expanding his business premises.
The new first floor will house his office, leaving the ground floor to display his extensive range of mowers, parts and accessories.
Mr Fayle's existing building, which opened in 2013, is very environmentally friendly.
He designed it himself, with his architect, to have a very low carbon footprint.
It is constructed of clay bricks, which provide excellent heating/insulation, with double glazed windows, skylights and a clever use of the sun.
Rainwater from the roof is collected into a tank and then recycled to flush on-site toilets.
The new addition will also have solar panels.
Mr Fayle's green credentials extend to his business, which sells both new and second-hand mowers.
"I like to recycle rather than them going to landfill," he said of his reconditioned models. "I can easily reuse the parts. Over the years I've saved probably hundreds of machines from going into landfill.
"I really feel good that I'm doing my bit for the planet."
Mr Fayle started in the mower business in 2003, in his grandmother's garden in Leura.
He now operates out of the soon-to-be larger building in Govett Street, in the semi-industrial area between Leura and Katoomba.
He is open Tuesday-Friday 10am-4pm and on Saturday from 10.30am-12.30pm in summer and the busy months. See leuramowerrepairs.com.au.
