Planning is underway for Lower Blue Mountains Rotary's biggest event of the year - Australia Day on Glenbrook Park.
Rotary President John Van Der Meer said the club's Australia Day organising committee, headed by past president Trevor Lloyd, is well advanced with planning and will really appreciate extra hands to assist with the set up and pull down of the various resources and attractions before, during and after the big event.
'Volunteers from the general public raise their hands to assist every year and we really are appreciative," said Mr Van Der Meer.
"Setting up the ground includes tasks like erecting stalls and tents, laying out the annual Gnome Convention, parking cars and various other tasks. Set up usually takes place on the afternoon of January 25 whilst clean up commences when the program officially concludes at 1pm," he said.
Crowds of 6000 to 8000 gather on Glenbrook Park for Australia Day every year and Blue Mountains City Council mayor Mark Greenhill has urged the public to lend every possible assistance to Lower Blue Mountains Rotary.
"Without our Rotarians, there would be no major Australia Day celebrations in the Lower Mountains and volunteer support is essential to ease the load on club members," he said.
Past president Peter Agar is Rotary's roster manager for Australia Day and he would love to hear from people interested in volunteering their services. His mobile phone number is 0410 498 466 - or email pagar@tpg.com.au
