Blue Mountains councillors will receive a report on a revised set of building options for the Blaxland town centre master plan by April 2020, before putting them out for community consultation. The options will cover height, setback and building footprint. It follows negative community reaction late last year to the proposal which would have allowed four-storey buildings in the retail precinct.
Bridge naming restarts
The process of naming the Valley Heights pedestrian bridge has started all over again. In 2004 council sent a submission to the RMS that the bridge be named after Alex MacDonald - considered the "father of Valley Heights". Mayor Mark Greenhill told the October council meeting "The RMS has received the submission in 2004 and the RMS had not dealt with it. The RMS advice to staff is that it's lapsed." " ... we have no other option but to start the process [again]." Several names are in the mix, with a report to be presented at the November 26 council meeting.
Loan refusal
Springwood Country Club has applied for loans to pay for asbestos clean-up and club improvements, and been knocked back by several lenders. The EPA has granted the club an extension until December 29 to remove the asbestos contaminated fill. The club has begun preparing a business plan, and an update will be provided at the November 26 council meeting.
