Rubbish dumping and nuisance noise are just some of the impacts that an increase in commercial tourist visitation, overnight camping and evening partying are having on the environs of Sublime Point Lookout in Leura.
According to residents, the propensity of visitors to use the surrounding bushland as an open-air toilet is clear from the abundant evidence of these ablutions throughout the bush.
There have also been reports of speeding traffic endangering local pedestrians and visitors while walking to and from the lookout precinct.
Sublime Point Road resident, Craig Leighton, said that some of these practices had the potential to cause detriment well beyond the immediate area of the lookout.
"We are particularly concerned that illegal campfires and discarded cigarette butts will increase the risk of igniting a bushfire with disastrous consequences for residents and the environment," Mr Leighton warned.
A public meeting will be held at 6pm on Thursday, November 28, at the Fairmont Resort's Misty's room to formulate an action plan.
All Sublime escarpment residents, property owners and interested parties are invited to attend the meeting. More information is available from Andrew Niemeyer on 0414 241 118.
