Hazelbrook RFS found a juvenile female wombat in the active fire zone early this morning.
They picked it up and moved it to a safer spot and called WIRES.
Local volunteer Tracy Burgess took the callout and the RFS escorted her into the secured zone to rescue the little one.
"She's been seen by a vet. Given pain meds and antibiotics," Ms Burgess said.
"She's not burnt thankfully but has fractures in her nose. We presume a large branch or tree has fallen on her.
"I think it's a great story that the RFS took the time for the little one."
Ms Burgess often has a house full of rescued possums. She also takes in flying foxes and microbats.
