A 56-year-old Carlton man has been charged by Blue Mountains Police with having stolen goods, after being found on a dirt service road in Medlow Bath on Sunday January 12 at about 2pm.
The man was allegedly living out of his silver Nissan pulsar and was found with a National Parks firefighting uniform and various equipment used to fight fires in his car, even though he admitted to not being a firefighting group employee.
Acting Inspector, Detective Brendan Bayliss, said the accused man told police he had been "assisting in the firefighting effort across the Mountains throughout December 2019 and obtained the uniform from a person known to him, however he was not an employee of any fire service".
"Enquiries suggested the male was residing in the vehicle at numerous locations around the Upper Mountains, and has been doing so since early December.
"During interactions ... police sighted a [suspected] bowl of cannabis sitting on the dash of the vehicle," Det Bayliss said.
The man was charged with goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen and possessing a prohibited drug. He was granted conditional bail and will appear in Katoomba Local Court on January 27.
