Organisers of the Blue Mountains Winter Magic Festival have revealed 'Regeneration' as the theme for the 2020 event, calling on local businesses, volunteers, and visitors to get involved and support the creativity and talents of the Blue Mountains' community.
Festival president Dr Naomi Parry said the event, taking place on 20 June, 2020, will showcase the community's resilience following a summer marked by fire and flood.
"The devastating impacts of the bushfires and recent flood events have been felt deeply here and we need Winter Magic more than ever as a focal point for people to come together to celebrate and promote our creativity, diversity and sense of community," Dr Parry said.
"This year's theme is an appropriate one, regeneration, representing survival and regrowth as well as change and adaptation. With many families and businesses still doing it tough after the recent extreme weather events, Winter Magic is a fantastic opportunity to support them."
Dr Parry said the 2020 festival footprint would be the same as in 2019, with no grand parade but with a variety of acts across 10 stages plus street-based performance and entertainment.
"We will see many of our previous festival favourites take to the stages and Katoomba Street and ArtStreet is set to return this year, bigger and better than ever.
"We will also be organising a fashion parade and unveiling some exciting new activities on the main stage, as well as our day and night market and Winter Magic evening spectacular. Local celebrant Tina Marie Sheil of Love in the Mountains is also offering to marry couples for free on the day in a public ceremony of love and community.
"We really want people to dress up this year, especially in our theme colours of dark green, orange and sky blue. We will be taking performer bookings soon and stall-holder applications are currently open.
"We also want to hear from artists with poster ideas, and volunteers and businesses who want to support the festival and bring visitors back to Katoomba," Dr Parry said.
