Radio star Ray Hadley issued an on-air apology to Blue Mountains City Council's CEO, Dr Rosemary Dillon, this week.
The 2GB announcer apologised "unreservedly" for saying she had not been truthful to a public inquiry.
"On May 16 last year I spoke about the preliminary decision of the Blue Mountains City Council public inquiry. Following information given to me by a confidential source I made a number of comments, including that Dr Dillon did not give truthful evidence," Mr Hadley said on Monday.
"After that statement, the commissioner provided a further report on the 31st of July confirming that Dr Dillon had in fact given truthful evidence and had not misled the inquiry in any way. I accept that finding and would like to unreservedly apologise to Dr Dillon and her family for any hurt or distress caused by my words."
Dr Dillon said she welcomed the apology.
"On Monday, March 16, Mr Hadley affirmed on air that I had given truthful evidence to the public inquiry into Blue Mountains City Council.
"The commissioner of the public inquiry found on July 31, 2019 that I had not misled the public inquiry in any way, and Mr Hadley said he accepted that finding.
"Mr Hadley's original comments were unwarranted and caused my family and I great distress."
Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill said he also welcomed the apology.
"I know that it has been an incredibly difficult period for our CEO. The allegations made about her were wrong," he said.
