Katoomba's Haig Buckingham became the fastest ever 15-year-old in Australia to swim the 50m breaststroke this month.
The St Columba's College student clinched the benchmark in his heat at the NSW State Open Championships held at Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre from March 13 to 15.
His time of 29.06 seconds broke the previous record for a 15-year-old - 29.33 seconds - set by another Blue Mountains swimmer, Springwood's Matt Wilson, in 2014.
Buckingham qualified to swim in the 50m breaststroke State Open 'A' final, which was won by Wilson.
In the 100m breaststroke, Buckingham also qualified for the 'A' final, recording the fastest time this year for a 15-year-old in Australia and the sixth fastest ever.
The 15-year-old said he wouldn't have reached these achievements without the support of his parents, driving him to and from training as well as to various championships.
