Blue Mountains council will waive rents for all tenants in council buildings under commercial agreements, for as long as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
This will be reviewed on a monthly basis by the CEO, Rosemary Dillon.
But at the March 31 council meeting, ward one councillor Kerry Brown asked that rent by waived for at least six months from March, to give the businesses some security, then be reviewed on a monthly basis.
"When does covid end? When the virus ends or the recovery?" she asked.
Her amendment was defeated and the original motion, which included a raft of measures to support the Blue Mountains community was passed, supported by all councillors.
"The proposition before us is more generous. Rents will be waived while ever COVID-19 is around," said mayor Mark Greenhill.
