Volunteers of the NSW SES Blue Mountains attended to 28 calls for assistance as strong winds hit the region over the weekend.
Winds gusts were recorded at over 80km/h in many parts of the Mountains which caused several trees to fall across properties from Blaxland to Blackheath.
"The majority of calls were from the Lower to Mid Mountains," said John Hughes, Unit Commander for the NSW SES.
"Some properties were badly affected including one tree that speared a roof right into the lounge room of one house," Mr Hughes continued.
Over the weekend, the SES deployed six teams of volunteers to attend to the incidents and by yesterday afternoon all properties had been made safe.
"Our volunteers are very conscious of the risks from COVID-19 when deployed as team," Mr Hughes said.
"We have put in a number of safe-working practices for our members including procedures on how to clean all equipment and vehicles and how to work together but maintain safe distance."
The Blue Mountains SES Unit has been conducting online training and video conferencing so the 140 members can maintain their skills in a safe environment. The unit has also put in place procedures so that the operation management team can effectively work from home to manage large storm operations over the next few months.
