With half a million dollars to spend on new play equipment at Buttenshaw Park in Springwood, council has turned to the experts - the kids.
The Funbobulator, on council's Have Your Say website, lets kids (and their parents) choose what sort of equipment they'd like and what it might cost.
A bouldering wall, for example, has a price tag of $150,000, a giant wide embankment slide would cost $130,000 and a parkour circuit $115,000.
There are many options to look at: A flying fox, an extra high swing, a giant group swing, climbing domes and climbing cubes, a two-person spinner, digital play circuit and outside DJ booth.
Select what you want - within budget. And while the pictures aren't exactly what will be installed, the idea is to help the designers understand just what sort of play equipment young locals would like.
Council believes Buttenshaw is ideal for older children and teenagers because of its size and big slope.
It wants to provide a variety of play types and experiences, as well as inclusive play, which means options for kids with additional needs that can still be used by other kids.
The whole upgrade, including design, construction and equipment, is expected to cost $1.5 million and is being financed as part of the western Sydney city deal liveability program. Buttenshaw is one of four regional park upgrades being supported by the program. The others are Glenbrook Park, Wentworth Falls Lake and Soldiers Memorial Park in Blackheath.
The Have Your Say website also contains surveys about what might be important to install, everything from shade to signs, water bubblers to Wi-Fi, as well as a survey on children with additional needs.
The surveys closed on April 19. See https://yoursay.bmcc.nsw.gov.au/buttenshaw-park.
