Car crash into power pole closes Great Western Highway

The Great Western Highway was closed for four hours at Valley Heights on Saturday after a car hit a power pole, bringing lines down across the highway and causing considerable delays.

A Faulconbridge man, 19, was heading east at 3.40pm when nearing the Macquarie Road intersection, he lost traction on the wet road as he merged lanes, skidding and hitting a power pole.

Blue Mountains Police Detective Inspector Scott McAlpine said the driver had cuts and bruises and would receive an infringement for negligent driving.

Man dies in Kanimbla

A 72-year-old man has died after his 4WD crashed on a property in the Kanimbla Valley on May 20.

Emergency services were called to the property on Cullenbenbong Road, where the man was found dead in rugged bushland, about 150m from where his 4WD had rolled down a steep embankment.

Initial inquiries by Chifley Police District suggest there are no suspicious circumstances. A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Dog attack

Police are investigating an attack on a dog in her yard between 9am and 9.30am on May 14 at Grey Street, Glenbrook.

Police said the dog was possibly kicked, and a neighbor reported hearing squealing and howling, and saw a woman walking past with her dog who was looking into the yard of the injured dog.

Fall on train tracks

A 55-year-old man fell on to railway tracks at Leura Station about 2.20pm on May 18, after having a medical incident.

Det Insp McAlpine said the man landed between a stationary train and the platform. "Paramedics, police and NSW Fire and Rescue attended the location where he was carried out from under the train and moved to a waiting ambulance for transport to hospital," he said.

Missing bushwalker

At the time of going to press, police held serious concerns for 74-year-old Blackheath man David Bush, who went for a bushwalk on Saturday and hasn't been seen since. Mr Bush set off from Evans Lookout at 9am on May 23 for a day hike.

Extensive land and air searches are being conducted by emergency services.

Mr Bush was wearing black hiking pants, a black rain jacket, black down jacket, black beanie and carrying a blue backpack.
