Billy Connolly's Great American Trail
8.30pm Friday, 7Two
The third and final instalment of the Scottish comedian's US travelogue tracing the migratory trail of the Scots through America begins deep in Virginia on the trail of bootleggers dealing in moonshine and finishes in Nashville, Tennessee.
Billy follows the trail of the underground railroad and the woman who led hundreds of slaves to their freedom, and then stops off at a farm filled with giant sculpted heads of all the American presidents.
He visits the home of the family who made country music famous, marvels at the flamboyance of the designer who put Elvis in a gold suit and ends his grand tour at the Grand Ole Opry and the hallowed stage where Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash performed. Rated PG.
No Country for Old Men
9.30pm Friday, SBS WorldMovies
This 2007 Oscar-winning Coen brothers adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel is an absorbing, violent crime story with some philosophical musings. It boasts an excellent cast including Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin with an unforgettable performance by Javier Bardem as a hit man. Rated MA.
Hunt For the Wilderpeople
8.30pm Saturday, SBS
Writer-director Taika Waititi's charming and funny 2016 film about a boy (Julian Dennison) and his foster father (Sam Neill) on the run in New Zealand is hindered on slightly by Rachel House's hammy performance as a social worker. Rated PG.
Wall Street
7.30pm Monday, SBS WorldMovies
Back when Charlie Sheen was a respectable actor and not a trainwreck, he played a young broker who becomes friends with a ruthless New York corporate raider (MIchael Douglas, who won an Oscar). Not subtle, as usual for director Oliver Stone, but this 1987 film with the Douglas character's "Greed is good" mantra is still relevant. Rated M.
Miriam Margolyes: Almost Australian
8.30pm Tuesday, ABC
Miriam Margolyes, Aussie citizen since 2013, caused a spot of bother recently when she admitted she didn't much like the tall buildings in Surfers Paradise.
Best known for playing Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films, Margolyes was apparently shocked and disgusted to see the high-rises blocking out the sun for beachgoers: "There is a brutality there and a greed in Australia which I don't like".
It's precisely the kind of poshly pronounced plain-speaking we've come to expect from the 78-year-old during her sometimes jaundiced, sometimes jolly jaunt around her adopted homeland for the ABC.
This final instalment takes her to the massive McArthur River Mine, a remote cattle station called Seven Emu, a koala sanctuary, a Variety Bash car rally and, finally, to the Gold Coast. Rated M.
Tommy
8.30pm Wednesday, WIN
If you like Tom Selleck in Blue Bloods, this new cop show might appeal. But don't get too attached. It's just been cancelled by US network CBS after one season.
It stars Edie Falco, from The Sopranos and Nurse Jackie as Abigail "Tommy" Thomas, a celebrated NYPD officer headhunted to be the LA's first female police chief after a series of scandals and sex crimes forces the incumbent (Corbin Bernsen) into early retirement. Series creator Paul Attanasio (Homicide: Life on the Street, Bull), adds extra drama as lesbian Tommy reunites with her estranged daughter and attempts to navigate the politics of police headquarters and City Hall. Rated M.
