A pontoon to swim to, a new basketball court or space for outdoor movies in an unused section, new playground equipment and a loop walk all around it - just some of the ideas being floated in the draft masterplan for Wentworth Falls Lake.
Blue Mountains mayor, Mark Greenhill, said: "We value what the community has to say as we develop our district parks, including Wentworth Falls Lake Park. These improvements are important and we want your help to shape the designs. Consulting with you will help us identify priorities for the area.
"I encourage residents to look at the plans and let us know what you'd like to see at this iconic Blue Mountains park," he said.
Funding for the upgrade is provided by the Western Sydney City Deal Liveability Program. Council has also secured additional funding for a new playground.
Other upgrades from the Liveability Program include an accessible walkway over the dam wall, improvements to the wall to support that walkway, an accessible viewing platform and a new multi-purpose shelter.
Other changes proposed include minor levelling below the dam wall for a half basketball court and informal games and an outdoor cinema, a separate entrance on Waratah Rd with additional parking, a pontoon to provide a teenage play space and a multi-purpose outdoor classroom. A new children's dirt bike track and an outdoor gym are other ideas.
Another suggestion in the draft plan is for a full loop walk to be available around the lake (entirely off the roads) with an elevated boardwalk over hanging swamp.
A council spokeswoman said there were currently two playgrounds at Wentworth Falls Park. The pirate ship playground remains a popular feature and is still in good condition so will remain but council is looking for feedback for a new playground in place of the other existing one.
Wentworth Falls is one of four large district parks (the others are Glenbrook Park, Buttenshaw and Blackheath Soldiers Memorial Park).
